Will Smith speaks out four months after Oscar slap

“Chris, I apologize, my behavior was unacceptable,” Smith said earnestly. He contacted Rock, but he is not ready to talk to him yet and wants to contact him when he is ready. Smith also apologized to Rock’s mother and the 57-year-old’s entire family. Addressing the Oscar winners, the 53-year-old said ‘it breaks my heart that we stole your moment and ruined it’. An apology to Smith’s own family also follows.

“I’ve spent the last three months replaying and understanding the nuance and complexity of what happened in that moment,” Smith continued. He didn’t behave properly and he knew it too. He explains: “No part of me thinks that’s the best way to deal with feeling disrespected or insulted.” He deeply regrets his actions and is coming to terms with what happened without being ashamed of himself.

“I try not to think I’m shit”

Finally, the ‘King Richard’ actor, who received the Oscar for best actor after the action for this film, underlines: “I am human. And I made a mistake. And I try not to think of me as shit.” ‚ÄúSmith wants to bring light, love and joy into the world.

Two days after the Oscars, Smith posted on Instagram apologizing and emphasizing, “Violence in all its forms is toxic and destructive.” In April, the Academy of Oscars announced that he had been banned from the world’s most important film gala for ten years.
