The third season of The Mandalorian takes the series into more ambitious territory than ever before. In the two chapters released, Jon Favreau’s script devotes considerable time to the planet Mandalore and its history. Something that links the story to the figure of Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), the Imperial villain who was at the forefront of the attack that destroyed the planet. This is key to understanding Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) in the new episodes and what will happen with the dark saber.
All indications are that Moff Gideon will be at the center of the fledgling First Order’s strategy to achieve power. A plan that is barely glimpsed through his performances, but perhaps in his obsession with the nature of the capabilities of Grogu.
The character made it clear by admitting that his interest in the little ward of Command: it was related to his blood. Which could entail a large-scale plan of which there are hardly any hints, but which points to some kind of genetic and/or biological manipulation.

Moff Gideon is behind Palpatine’s Force-sensitive clones?
Is this about the link that would connect the series to the events narrated by the so called. New Trilogy and involving Snoke? As you may recall, the mentor of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) turned out to be little more than a clone of Palpatine. Most striking, however, was that the creature had a distinct ability to control The ForceIs the blood of the protégé of Din Djarin the origin of the gloomy figure?
Caught by the New Republic and in their custody, Moff Gideon, for now, seems out of any action that would benefit his allies. Though he will most likely return to the central storyline of the series very soon. Which could mean that the dogged pursuit vs. Grogu and the bounty hunter played by Pedro Pascal will continue.
At the beginning of The Mandalorian, Moff Gideon was already feared for his ruthlessness. By then, he had obtained the title of Moff -governor of a galactic sector- and carried out his best-known mission. During the last years of the Empire, Mandalore became uncontrollableThe regime sent the official to command a total siege, which ended up destroying the cities on the surface of the planet.
The Call Night of a Thousand Tears became one of the most violent massacres narrated in Star Wars mythology. It wiped out its most important enclaves, government buildings and iconic constructions and rendered its surface uninhabitable. This forever changed the history of Mandalorian culture and made the few survivors nomadic.
The fate of Moff Gideon, a man of special cruelty.
The war crime turned Moff Gideon into one of the most feared figures of the years leading up to the fall of galactic totalitarianism. Later, after the defeat of his troops, he faked his execution. In this way he avoided being hunted down and caught. He was also able to rejoin the surviving forces of the victory of the Rebel Alliance. His next appearance, always according to the chronology of Star Wars Canon G, coincides with the first chapters of The Mandalorian. One of his followers was commissioned to hire a bounty hunter for a mission of critical importance.
In Nevarro, Din Djarin was chosen by an anonymous client (Werner Herzog), who commissioned him to kidnap the child. But, in the end, the Mandalorian refused to obey and fulfill the mission, even against the Creed of his culture and ended up confronting Moff Gideon. Then, in the second season, he snatched the black lightsaber of Tarre Viszlasymbol of dominance among the Mandalorians.
The intrigues of power and a sinister scenario.
What is evident is that the character is at the center of a secret conspiracy to restore to the Empire. A turn of events that could explain why he was able to use the scarce resources he managed to conserve after the victory of the Rebel Alliance for their own benefit. Even more disturbing is the possibility that their actions are linked to the total destruction of the Mandalorian people. Which would include preventing any purpose of future reunification. When confronted with Din Djarin with the dark saber and being defeated, provided him the right to the throne of his planet.
Something that further divides the few survivors. On the one hand, the princess Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) aspires to lead her people. But, now, she will have to face Commanda son of the moon Concordia and of the more traditional Mandalore faction. The Moff Gideon could have plotted a strategy to bring about the total demise of the warrior world? Is an even deadlier siege in the making than the one that is already part of Star Wars mythology? Only time will tell.
