Can Coleen Rooney claim that Rebekah Vardy sent private messages to the tabloids? A London judge has now ruled on this.
A verdict has been delivered in the sensational trial between England footballers’ wives Rebekah Vardy and Coleen Rooney. Striker Jamie Vardy’s wife lost to former star striker Wayne Rooney’s wife. The court dismissed Vardy’s lawsuit for defamation.
The reason for the process was an Instagram post from Rooney, in which she accused her former friend of telling private stories to the gossip press. Because the 36-year-old used criminal flair to convict Vardy, 40, she was dubbed by the media “Wagatha Christie” – a pun on the abbreviation “wags”, the English term for wives of players, and the name of crime writer Agatha Christie.
“Ms. Vardy was aware of this behavior”
The High Court in London said it was ‘likely’ Vardy’s former agent leaked Rooney’s stories to a tabloid.
‘Nevertheless, in my view, the evidence clearly shows that Ms Vardy was aware of and condoned this conduct,’ the judge said. She referred her employee to Rooney’s private Instagram account, sent him screenshots of the posts and drew attention to topics that might be of interest to the gossip press.
